June 30-July 4, 2025 is the week Discover Quintet will be at Davies Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 7400 Temple Hill Road, Camp Springs, Maryland (Map)
If you like playing in band, you are going to LOVE playing in a quintet!
Discover Quintet workshop is held Monday through Friday from 10:30am to 2:30pm. The week will conclude with a Friday performance. Discover Quintet is open to rising 9th graders (entering HS in Fall 2024) through rising college freshman -- exceptions may be made for younger students based on proficiency and available openings. To be eligible, students must play one of these instruments:
Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Horn or Bassoon
Since 2013, music students have been discovering the joy of hard work in Discover Quintet, a 5-day workshop. Our students learn to listen, play, relate and improve their instrumental skills as a small group. Discover Quintet opens new worlds of music, with the opportunity to receive real-time feedback and constructive help. Students learn to trust each other through daily rehearsals, all coached by top-tier professional musicians.
Discover Quintet came to Cheverly, Maryland for an excellent re-launch in Prince Georges County! The picture above celebrates the great progress made in 2024 by terrific wind students with their coaches, including hornist-composer Jeff Scott (see Imani Winds).
Coached rehearsals with fun team-building exercises were the foundation for wonderful music-making, confidence-building, and the opportunity to learn new pieces by a variety of traditional and 21st century composers. Questions? Contact Nancy Switkes, Director, [email protected], 301-412-1144.
