About the Workshop
Q: Who is Discover Quintet designed for?
A: Rising 8th graders through college seniors on flute, oboe, clarinet, horn or bassoon who have the ability to learn their music 2-3 weeks before the start date of the festival. Those interested in the festival should live in and around Prince George's County.
Q: Do students need prior chamber music experience?
A: Students are not required to have prior chamber music experience, but you must have 2 or more years’ experience in a school wind ensemble or band on your instrument. An audition is required for students in each year you apply.
Q: Why are auditions required?
Q: Do students need to come with a pre-formed quintet?
A: No, the camp will assign each accepted student to a group, based on your audition. You'll have new friends by the end of the week! But pre-formed quintets or friends are also welcome to apply.
Q: Can I get help transporting my participant/child to Camp Springs?
A: If an uncle, cousin, grandparent or neighbor can't help out, ask Director Nancy by June 1 please to connect you to other participants in your school district— carpooling with other students is encouraged; remote-working parents have worked from nearby libraries during Discover Quintet hours. The Director cannot personally give rides to students. Consider using Branch Ave Metro station on the Green line, a 1-mile walk before the sun gets hot.
